McKenzi is a
Spokane
native currently attending Lewis and
Clark
High School
where she is a junior.
She is an Honor Roll student, and a member of the
National Junior Honor Society. McKenzi has received above average scores on the
entire WASL and the highest possible in writing. She has taken honors classes
since the 5th grade. This year McKenzie is taking English AP,
Pre-Calculus Math AP, and physics along with her other courses.
McKenzi
is a member of Lewis & Clarks golf and drill teams.
She
serves as a choreographer for the drill team.
Her Platform Issue is
Assisting education in elementary schools.
She feels that teens must be made aware that our
elementary schools need their help in assisting the education of the students,
and that the elementary age children need to know that it is okay to seek the
help they need because the teens are there for them.
McKenzi tutors at both Adams and Hutton
Elementary schools.
She volunteers at the after school program on
Tuesdays and Wednesdays assisting children with any academic homework or with
questions they have about
subjects
such as math, social studies and English.
McKenzi notes that with the school
budget
cuts there are significant decreases in the days and hours that
homework
and/or tutoring centers are offered to students in elementary schools (example:
Hutton only offers it 2 days a week now). Her goal is to get more teens involved
to give back to the elementary schools that have given so much to them. McKenzi
would also like to encourage the children who need the extra help to come to the
centers so that they will perform better in school.
She hopes to raise awareness of this issue by
spreading the word to students in high school and elementary schools however
possible, such as public speaking. I would promote giving the “I Can!” attitude
to high school students about giving back to the community and to elementary
students. This will promote self esteem in education.

She hopes to attend a college or university to prepare for a career as a lawyer
or engineer. As a child, though, she always fantasized about becoming a female
“Tiger Woods” or a dolphin trainer at Sea World.
McKenzi eats starbursts in rainbow
order (ROY G BIV). Her fingers can bend in awkward places and she can tie a knot
in a cherry stem and unwrap a starburst candy without using her hands. Although
she considers herself a chocolate fanatic, vanilla tootsie rolls are her
favorite candy.
McKenzi loves scary movies and enjoys a good jump
in a puddle. She
has three best friends,
2 of which are from kindergarten.. In the summer, McKenzi loves spending time at
Priest Lake,
Idaho working at Elkins
Resort, extreme tubing, water skiing or having fun in the sun.
She knows the United States in alphabetical order,
and she is a nanny.
